Your car is the single worst place to do kegels.
- For kegels to work, you squeeze the muscles as hard as you can. It takes focus — do a real kegel while driving, and you’ll crash the car!
- “Whenever I’m at a red light” turns out to be “never.” Do kegels whenever an opportunity comes up? Research shows you won’t do them. Success means you make kegels part of a routine you can count on — just like waking up in the morning and brushing your teeth.
- To keep your muscles healthy, you relax the muscles completely after each kegel. Close your eyes and relax… and drive? That’s crazy!

When your rectum is full of poop that can’t get out, there’s too much pressure on your bladder. This leads to leaks (or floods). And pushing hard on the toilet can literally pop a prolapse out.
Word #3: Drinks
Drink More to Pee Less… Really!
Leaking urine all day long, or staying dry? It could be as simple as what you drink, and how much.
Many drinks contain “bladder triggers,” such as caffeine and others, that can irritate the bladder and cause you to lose control.
Choosing water helps you avoid bladder triggers found in other drinks — but many women don’t drink enough water for fear of an “accident.”
If you don’t drink enough water, your urine gets too concentrated. The extra-strong urine irritates the bladder and can cause urine leaks.
It’s true! Drinking more water can help you stay dry.
Word #4: Workout
Will Your Fitness Workout Put You Into Adult Diapers?
Research shows that morning is the best time to exercise.
But watch out! Some of the most popular fitness moves can do serious damage to your pelvic floor muscles (the muscles between your legs), causing prolapse, incontinence, and problems with sex.
Women often tell me, “things aren’t right down there since I started going to the gym.” Certain exercises put the wrong kind of pressure on the pelvic floor and set you up for potential disaster.
Beware high-impact exercise, such as running, and exercises that squeeze the abdomen, including most abdominal exercises. Low-impact exercise, and core training that doesn’t squish your belly, are the way to go.
