"What was your favorite/most memorable song when you were 22 years old?"
Find the complete playlist here
Barbara: "In My Life" by The Beatles
This song makes me think of my friends and family, some that may have passed away. As well as ones still here that mean so much to me.
Linda: "Sweet Dreams" by the Eurythmics.
I chose this song because it's one of my favorite karaoke songs.
Adriana:
“If” by Bread
“It’s impossible” by Perry Como
“Joy To The World” - Three Dog Night
I love music, and to me, it is the sublimest of the arts. Music can make you laugh, dance and even move you to tears. At age 22, there were so many songs that l loved and three were very special. They remain so to this day. The first one that stood out was “If”. Sung by the group Bread. In 1971. Very romantic prosaic song with lovely words and sentiment and it is special to me. We were newly engaged to be married. This year we are married 50 years! “If the world would stop revolving, spinning slowly down to die, I’d spend the end with you, and when the world was through, And one by one, the stars would all fall out, and you and l would simply fly away”
Another song that resonated to me was “It’s Impossible “ sung by Perry Como. It made me cry. To me it was a beautiful song that was sung artfully by Mr C. It ended “To live without your love would be impossible”
Both Richard and l liked the group Three Dog Night and “Joy to the World “ was an upbeat and special song that l still sing at Karaoke. I encourage others to sing this song, too!
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share a wonderful trip down memory lane.
Alyce: "Bensusan" by Michael Hedges
Donna: "Rock Your Baby" by George McCrae
It was a hit song when I vacationed in Freeport, Bahamas in July of 1974 and the very first time I was able to pay for my very own trip and going with a friend and not parent ... a breaking free from family and independent feeling. It was a very popular disco song back then and whenever I hear it now (which is hardly) I go back in time wishing I was young again!! Good times!!
Frieda: Fascination with Kay Starr
Lucy: "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele
In 2010 I was 22. I'd been married 3 years and had two little girls, ages two and infant. We listened to music on the radio in the car while running errands.
My favorite hit song from that year is Rolling In The Deep by Adele.
I am a musician - I can sing and play the piano, but I won't perform that song live this time. I have a third daughter now, who just celebrated her first birthday, and she takes plenty of attention since she's still nursing.
Marcia: "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver
I was married at 21 and a half and we went on a 63 day honeymoon from New York to Alaska, driving.
Listening to the radio was very important and that song had a great deal of meaning to us. We were camping and enjoying the adventures across the country, especially National Parks. We have lots of stories we tell about that trip, The most famous was meeting a grizzly bear and a cub in the woods at McKinley Park. We still tell that story!
We are married for 49 years.
Jeanne: "Moon River" by Andy Williams
My song choice for that time in my life was "Moon River" by Andy Williams. My late husband &I got married in 1965 & that was OUR SONG. We even danced to it on our Honeymoon at Harrison Hot Springs in Canada.
Jane: "Old Cape Cod"
I think this is a couple of years before I was 22 but, this is my song Old Cape Cod by Peggy Lee. We went to Niagara Falls and Cape Cod for our Honeymoon. The song was an influence in going there.
Jahmina: "Like This" by Kelly Rowland (feat. Eve)
My favorite song in 2007 (age 22) was “Like This” by Kelly Rowland featuring Eve
Alicia: "Breathless" by The Corrs
I was in England when I turned 22! Picked up a Corrs album and played it constantly. My favourite was “Breathless.”
Kathy: "Both Sides Now" by Judy Collins
One of my favorite songs was Both Sides Now by Judy Collins. I always enjoyed hearing it on the radio.
Elaine: "Backstreets" by Bruce Springsteen
It's such powerful music and the lyrics appeal to my inner rebel. I still love it at age 67
Dawn: "Eruption" by Van Halen
Music stirs my soul, my heart, and my loins lol!
Music whether it be a crying violin in the symphony or a screaming guitar that gives me goosebumps...music evokes every emotion in life when it's done right.
My favorite song when I was 22 ( A LONG TIME AGO) was Eruption by Van Halen.
Eddie Van Halen was an icon and that song blew up the ears and charts for anyone that ever heard of a guitar, or picked one up.
My brother that I adore that is currently 57 and in a hard rock band learned to play this song as one of the first songs he learned on his own with NO music lessons.
This song is still considered one of the all-time hardest songs to play for any rock guitarists. That's why no one plays Van Halen lol!
AND - to top it off, my brother created this EXACT guitar that Eddy used with paint and tape. Yes, my brother is VERY creative.
How many 62-year-old women can still rock out to this amazing intro to another song and get goosebumps?
This sound was a style that no other guitarist ever did. And here is my all time song that changed my life in 1981.
Hate it or love it. It's still a mind blower to me!
At the 5:05 mark, is when Eddie changed the world of guitar playing. Goosebumps EVERY TIME!
Connie: "Happy Together" by the Turtles
I got married that year and this month we celebrate 55 years on August 19th so we have had many happy years together! That was a number 1 hit that year: 1967!
Wendy: "Crocodile Rock" by Elton John
I was 13 and it was just fun!!! - https://youtu.be/xw0EozkBWuI
Sorry I missed the 22 lol
"Keep On Loving You" by REO Speedwagon
Amber: "You Were Meant For Me" by Jewel
I was 22 in 1996. This was the first year of living on my own in my first apartment. I’d recently ended my first serious relationship of three years. The year before (1995) I began a career in the fire service. Women in that service was not common then and I was learning to navigate the pushback as well as how to master the skills to be successful. This song highlighted the grace needed find out what I wanted for myself and how best to care for me. Although I was sad at times, I was very optimistic about the future and being on my own.
Looking back at this song now the lyrics nearly described my existence then identically.
Kimberly: "Ain't Nobody" by Chaka Khan
Hi my favorite song when I was 22 was "Ain't Nobody" ... by Chaka Khan. I Love to sing and dance and this was and is one of my all time favorite songs. During that time in my life I was participating in a lot plays and singing a lot at different events during my spare times. Thanks so much!!
Zachary Spath: "Novacane" by Beck
OK I made a play list first of songs that I remember playing that year, then I went through songs that came out in 1999 (that year All Star by smash mouth, Scar Tissue by RHCP, Bodyrock Moby, Praise You Fatboy Slim, and Last Kiss by Pearl Jam)... I've got 13 songs in my playlist. but when I consider which is most memorable I'm going to go with Novocane by Beck which came out in 1997. What fun! Thanks for making this post!
Gina: "Roll With The Changes" by REO Speedwagon
I had many favorite songs (I'm for sure dating myself here), but loved dropping the needle on vinyl & cranking the stereo while rockin' out to Roll With The Changes, REO Speedway. Even to this day, when I hear those first few cords, I go into air instrument mode
, smile, dance & sing! Fun times
